Attractions
Yuyuan Garden
Yuyuan Garden, located in the center of the Old City next to the Chenghuangmiao in the city, is considered one of the most lavish and finest Chinese gardens in the region.
Zhujiajiao Ancient Water Village
Known as the “ Venice in Shanghai ”, it is a well-preserved waterside ancient town. It was already a country fair as early as the Warring States Period, 1,700 years ago. During the Wanli years of the Ming Dynasty (1573-1617), with merchants flocking to the place and a growing population, it had become a prosperous town. There, we can still see the traces of the antique markets and streets of the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
Jade Buddha Temple
The Jade Buddha Temple is a Buddhist temple in Shanghai. As with most modern Chinese Buddhist temples, the current temple draws from both the Pure Land and Chan traditions of Mahayana Buddhism. It was founded in 1882 with two jade Buddha statues imported to Shanghai from Burma by sea. These were a sitting Buddha (1.95 metres tall, 3 tonnes ), and a smaller reclining Buddha representing Buddha's death. The temple now also contains a much larger reclining Buddha made of marble, donated from Singapore, and visitors may mistake this larger sculpture for the original, smaller piece.
Xintiandi
Xintiandi is a car-free shopping, eating and entertainment area of Shanghai. It is composed of an area of restored traditional shikumen houses on narrow alleys. When similar shikumen houses were demolished massively, the houses in Xintiandi were then restored, and now house an art gallery, cafes, and restaurants. It is considered one of the first lifestyle centers in China.
