Xi'an City Tour

Xian records the great changes of the Chinese nation just like a living history book. It is one of the birthplaces of the ancient civilization in the Yellow River area of China. During Xian’s 3,100 years development, 13 dynasties such as Qin (221 BC – 206 BC), Western Han (206 BC – 24 AD) and Tang (618 – 907) placed their capital here. The Xi'an City Wall
The Xi'an City Wall is not only the most complete architecture well preserved of ancient Chinese burghs but also the largest in size and integral ancient military fort of the world. The Xi'an City Wall augmented in Ming Dynasty measures 12 meters high, 12 to 14 meters wide on the top, 15 to 18 meters wide at the bottom with a total length of 13.7 kilometers. There is a watchtower in every 120 meters, outstanding with a same height leveling with the wall to help soldiers kill enemies that are climbing the wall.
The Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Qinshihuang Mausoleum
The Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Qinshihuang Mausoleum is regarded as the eighth wonder of the world. The terracotta figures are life-like and life-sized. They vary in height, uniform and hairstyle in accordance with rank. The figures include warriors, chariots and horses. Current estimates are that in the three pits containing the Terracotta Army there were over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses, the majority of which are still buried in the pits near by Qin Shi Huang's mausoleum.
The Big Wild Goose Pagoda
The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is the symbol of Xian and a well-preserved ancient building and holy place for Buddhists. It was built in 652 in the Tang Dynasty to safekeep the 657 volumes of Buddhist scriptures brought back from India by Monk Xuan Zhuang. Over 1000 years old, the pagoda still stands intact.
The Lesser Wild Goose Pagoda
The Lesser Wild Goose Pagoda was built in the year 707 during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). As it is newer and smaller than the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the name was given to distinguish the two. Unlike the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, it is dainty and exquisite in its appearance. It is an important cultural relic and one of the remaining symbols of ancient Chang'an (the name of Xian in the Tang Dynasty).
Hanyang Mausoleum
Hanyang Mausoleum, was buried of the Emperor Jing and Empress Wang of the Western Han Dynasty. The yard contains dozens of cultural relics and historic sites of different categories, among which there are more than 150 ancillary tombs in four locations where nearly fifty thousand pieces of precious cultural relics were unearthed including the colored nude pottery figurines reputed as Oriental David and Venus. Hanyang Mausoleum has not only numerous historic sites and exquisite cultural relics with profound cultural significance, but also enchanting natural scenery.
The Grand Mosque
The Grand Mosque which was originally built in 742, is a large ancient architectural complex featuring the Chinese palace style with a long history. It covers an area of 13000 square meters. Inside the Mosque stands the large wooden archway built in the beginning of the 17th century, 9 meters high with the roof of glazed tiles and the delicately engraved flying eaves. The Mosque displays the harmonious combination of both Islamic and Chinese cultures.
Banpo Museum
Banpo Museum The Banpo Site is a typical Neolithic matriarchal community belonging to the Yangshao Culture. It dates back about 6,000 years. At that time, the Banpo people used tools made primarily of wood and stone. Women, the crucial labor force, were responsible for making pottery, spinning, and raising the family, while men fished.
Huaqing Hot Spring
Huaqing Hot Spring Situated at the foot of Mt. Lishan, the hot springs have been famous since ancient times. The favorable geographical condition and natural environment make it one of the cradles where ancient people settled. It was also a favorite place for emperors to build their palace as a resort.
The Bell Tower
The Bell Tower is a classical building with carved beams and painted rafters. It stands in the center of the downtown area where the four main roads meet. The tower houses a huge bell which in ancient times was used to strike the time every morning. The Bell Tower was first built in Ying Xiang Temple in 1384 during the Ming Dynasty.
Shannxi History Museum
Shannxi History Museum Constructed in the style of Tang architecture “the central halls surrounded by high towers”, the large and elegant buildings have integrated the ancient architecture with modern technology. The Museum houses a collection of more than three hundred and seventy thousand pieces of precious cultural relics, large in quantity, complete in variety and high in grade.
Famen Temple
Famen Temple Situated in Famen Town of Fufeng County, about 120 kilometers (about 74.57 miles) west of Xian, Famen Temple is renowned for storing the veritable Finger Bone of the Sakyamuni Buddha. It was established in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25--220), for carrying forward Buddhism. The most representative structures in the temple are the Famen Temple Pagoda and Famen Temple Museum.
Forest of Stone Steles Museum
The Forest of Stone Steles Museum was initially established in AD 1087 when some of precious stone steles were moved here for safe keeping. With 900 years of history, this treasure house holds a large collection of the earliest stone steles of different periods, from the Han Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty.

Dumplings are raised to a high art form at this huge and lively restaurant located next to the Bell Tower Square. Upstairs De Fa Chang is a little more refined, and serves an unbelievable 18-course dumpling meal.
