Tour description Crested Ibis (Nipponia nippon) admired as the "Oriental Gem" is one of the most endangered species in the world. It is only in present Yangxian County of Shaanxi Province where only 7survivals of wild Crested Ibis population is rediscovered in May of 1981. It was listed as an international protected species by the 12th World Bird Conservation Convention. Owing to the protection effort by all levels governments, the population of the species has increased at considerable scale to about 500 now. How about the bird present situations and their habitat? Day 01: Entry Beijing
Arrive in Beijing, our professional tour guide will meet you at the Beijing Airport and transfer to the hotel. The rest time is on your own.
Day 02: Beijing
After breakfast, visit the intriguing Forbidden City, constructed by hundreds of thousands of workers between 1406 and 1420, and now a World Heritage Site. Explore its imperial gardens, extraordinary architecture, and museums. Then, view the Temple of Heaven, which features stunning Ming Dynasty architecture. It was built in the 15th century according to the most advanced principles of mechanics and geometry then available. Enjoy a Peking Roast Duck Dinner in the evening.
Day 03: Beijing
Drive to the impressive Great Wall at Badaling Section, which once stretched for 6,200 miles across northern China. After lunch, visit the Summer Palace, which was built in 1888 by the Empress Dowager Ci Xi, using funds originally intended for the Qing Imperial Navy. Here, there will be plenty of time for exploring the beautiful grounds. Walk along the Painted Gallery, the longest covered walkway in China, decorated with exquisite landscape paintings. Enjoy dinner on your own this evening at one of the many local restaurants in or near your hotel.
Day 04: Beijing/Xian
Fly to Xian in the morning and check in the hotel. Take a half day city tour, the City Wall, the Bell Tower and the Shannxi Historical Museum. Attend the Tang Dynasty Show after the dumpling banquet dinner.
Day 05: Xian
View the extraordinary 2,300-year old terracotta warriors made for the tomb of China's first emperor, Qinshihuang. The warriors still stand on the site where they were discovered by peasants in 1974 and a local village. Then visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Known as the best-preserved Buddhist temple complex to store the sutras and the figurines of Buddha, which were brought from India by a famous Buddhist translator and traveler Tang Sanzang.
Day 06: Xian/Yangxian
After breakfast, drive to Yangxian county by bus, check in the hotel at Yangxian, then visit Giant Panda Breeding Center.
Day 07: Giant Panda Viewing
Go to field to trace wild Giant Panda guided by the local persons then visit Giant Panda Rescue Center. Overnight at the hotel of Yangxian.(Option: camping in the mountain and extending 2-3 days for tracking wild panda. It is almost 90% possibility of viewing wild panda there)
Day 08-09: Crested Ibis Viewing
View wild Crested Ibis leaded by the local bird expert in the field where there are fallow paddy fields with water in winter, typical of traditional farming thus providing the birds with a source of food, and accompanied by a few farmhouses that is the unique survival environment for the Crested Ibis. You can hear the beautiful singing of the birds, watch them feeding, bathing and enjoying the unique pink color from beneath their wings. At the same time, you can also visit a wild pheasant breed farm.
Day 10: Yangxian/Shanghai via Xian
Drive back to Xian and transfer to the airport. Fly to Shanghai and check into a hotel. The rest time is on your own.
Day 11: Shanghai
Spend the morning visiting Shanghai Museum and viewing its wonderful collection of Chinese bronzes, jade, pottery and ceramics, paintings and calligraphy, old coins, and furniture. In the afternoon, visit Yuyuan Garden in old Shanghai and absorb the Chinese traditional garden ambience. Wander to the Bund, one of the most noted architectural symbols of Shanghai, in the afternoon. This evening, enjoy a memorable farewell banquet at a fine restaurant, famous for Shanghai cuisine.
Day 12: Departure
After breakfast, transfer to the airport and take the flight to your next destination.
